JP taught himself to play the guitar by listening to LPs by his favorite bands like Free, Zeppelin, Hendrix, Cream and the Beatles.
----At 18, after high school, JP moved to Toronto, Canada where he studied piano at the Royal Conservatory of Music. He performed with several rock bands. JP went to a Buddy Miles concert in London, Ontario, (Hendrix, Band of Gypsys, Santana) and he went backstage to meet him.
----Buddy was so impressed with his knowledge of Hendrix songs and the fact that he played the guitar left-handed-backwards (like himself), that he invited JP to jam with him the following night. Buddy then asked JP to join his band back in Los Angeles, so at 21, JP moved to LA.

Ricky was born in Caracas, Venezuela in 1959. His first encounter with the arts was through according lessons taken from 8 to 15 years old, participating in local competitions, playing at social events and galas, and becoming part of the accordion elite of Caracas. |
|
He soon decided to get a more contemporary audience and learned how to play acoustic / classic guitar, and finally thought himself how to play electric guitar, which lead to playing with some local bands. However, his career took a different turn when he choose to become a Computer Science Major. Thus, music was never far away, he became involved in different aspects of music events: working as a photographer at the Poliedro de Caracas for two years, general event production while working for 2 years with "Adelante Juventud" also known as "Up with People", and producing what would be the beginning of the "miniteca" events in Caracas (private parties with somewhat experienced DJs at large locations).
Upon arrival to the US in 1981 Ricardo continued his career as a Computer Science engineer, until the year 1997 when realizing the power of the Internet, Ricardo created a web site called "ROCKOLA". This website soon became the largest web site with Rock in Spanish content, creating a real web of links that for a while seemed never ending and almost impossible to manage ( up to 100 e-mails per day, for several months ). The creation of this website unavoidably lead Ricardo to become one of the gurus of the Rock in Spanish movement in Los Angeles, which lasted approximately three to four years (1998-2002) at its highest, and finally to become a producer of Rock in Spanish events in Los Angeles at places like: The Whisky a Go Go, The Roxy, The Gig and others.
Ricardo became involved for several years with the Latin Funk Band "Cecilia Nöel & The Wildclams", with an unearned title of: "do it all for the band and hope that everything goes well" Ricardo launched in one of the most enriching experiences of his musical life. There he met J.P Cervoni, who was one the "hired guns" (Guitar player) for "The Wildclams". Thanks to Cecilia Nöel Ricardo made many acquaintances both on stage and behind the stage, who helped him to run the very successful Rockola for three years, together with his assistant Illiana Cantavella "The Rockola girl".
After the years of work with Cecilia Noel, the Rockola and running his own computer consulting business it was clear that something had to give. The relationship with the Wildclams sadly ended, and the Rockola had been under the attack of other competitors who were solely dedicated to this movement and more resources dedicated to this genre. The Rockola "passed away", however, the next step would move him into a totally different realm of the music business.
A seat in the Board of Directors of the Be Music Foundation opened the doors to two different aspects: contacts with big names in the industry and the opportunity of generating funds to give back in the form of scholarships for talented kids of under served communities in Los Angeles. This was done through the production of fund raising events, award ceremonies and other related events. During this time Ricardo met, through a random situation of life, Simone Borghi, an young man from Ancona, Italy who had been visiting Los Angeles for the third time and with little success trying to meet with people from the industry, and wanting to record a CD with his own songs in the US. Ricardo introduced Simone to JP Cervoni. The last 5 years have been spent in producing Simone's CDs (2) and "New Edge Project" (a duo from Ancona), with musicians like James Raymond, Vinnie Colaiuta and Tony Levin.
After working several years with Simone Borghi, last summer, 2007, an idea gave birth among the group, and it was the one of generating a bridge of artists coming from overseas, not only musicians, but painters, movie makers, etc. Anything where self-expression is involved.
The first, prototype of the showcase took place in January 2008.
Two painters, one movie maker and a performer from Ancona, Italy were presented in different locations of L.A.
No later after that JP and Ricardo decided to create "Nyx Productions" (Creation out of Nothing), and move into a direction seldom explored but interesting nevertheless, possibly a new trend of the millenium.
